Last year I built Backpockets, a Mac app for one annoying problem: you saved something, you know you saved it, and you can't find it. You don't remember the title, the folder or the exact words. You remember what it was about.
Backpockets let you search your saves by what you remember. It runs locally on the Mac, needs no account, and imports your Pocket library.
The most common question I got was "Where's the iPhone version?" That makes sense, because most saving happens on the phone: a link in a group chat, an article you'll read later, a screenshot of something you'll need again.
So I built it for iPhone, and the iPhone app is called Backpacks.
What Backpacks does today (version 1.0, live on the App Store)
- Save links and screenshots from the share sheet in one tap
- Read the text inside your screenshots, on the device
- Search as you type across titles, sites, page text and screenshot text
- Filter Home and All Items by Media or Links
- Export everything as a zip of the originals plus library.json
There are no folders, no tags and no weekly cleanup. You save something, forget about it, and find it later with any word you remember.
What stayed the same
- No account
- No analytics
- Your library stays on your device
What's coming
Version 1.6 is with Apple for review. It adds files, notes and iCloud sync. I'll post again when it's live.
Try it
Backpacks is free on the App Store for iPhone (iOS 26 or later):
